It had a generous helping of volume in the nose and low, soft rails that concluded in a flyer swallow tail. There was also a vee concave through the tail to help with lift and squirt off the bottom. From my first wave it was evident that this board had no issues generating speed.

Super Groms and Shaping Legends
I first met Christian and his brother Nathan at Burleigh Heads during the iconic Stubbies Surf Classic in 1982. They were just kids. Christian was 11, and Nathan was 8, accompanied by their legendary parents, Herbie and Dibby Fletcher. It was an honour to shape boards for these "super groms" back then, never realising just how impactful that moment would be.
From Burleigh to Trestles
By the late 80s, Christian was taking California by storm, pushing the boundaries of surfing while riding boards shaped by masters like Chris McElroy (R.I.P) and Timmy Patterson. I’d been sending boards to California, and I’m told that several well-known shapers there noticed Christian going mental on his “NEV’s from Burleigh” at Trestles. Seeing Christian rip so hard and fly so high on my boards in the US, the epicentre of the surfing world, was an incredible boost for my shaping career. His explosive style helped catapult NEV Future Shapes to become the first Australian surfboard company to export finished boards across the USA, Europe, Japan, and Brazil throughout the 90s.
The Rebel Who Took Surfing Sky High
Christian Fletcher is a name synonymous with aerial surfing and anti-establishment attitude. This metal-loving, goofy-footer from San Clemente was truly ahead of his time, pioneering aerial manoeuvres that were initially shunned by the competitive surfing world. Drawing inspiration from his skateboarding skills, Christian brought a rebellious energy and raw authenticity to the sport, flipping traditional surfing on its head. Surf writer Matt George put it best: "Anytime Christian Fletcher shows up, an ordinary day suddenly ends."
Christian’s impact extended beyond the waves. The Fletchers were industry pioneers, with Herbie and Dibby creating Astrodeck, the first company to produce deck grips for surfboards. They also made their impact with edgy, heavy-metal-influenced surf videos that embodied the rebellious spirit of the 80s surf scene.
The Aerial Innovator’s Ride
The Christian Fletcher Legendary Replica is a tribute to a game-changer in surf history. Modelled after the boards Christian used to shake up the surfing world, this replica retains the narrow, thin, and responsive design that made his manoeuvres so groundbreaking. Shaped for speed and control, this board has influenced generations of shapers and surfers alike, and remains true to the iconic “NEV Future Shapes” styling with its bold, unmistakable logo.
Today, this replica stands as a piece of surfing history, capturing Christian’s unfiltered energy and fearless approach. If you’re looking for a board that embodies innovation, rebellion, and pure stoke, this is it.
